CHEST Journal Highlights

Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic: A Position Paper From the National PERT Consortium

By Rachel P. Rosovsky, MD, MPH; Charles Grodzin, MD; Richard Channick, MD; et al.; and the PERT Consortium
December 2020 Issue
The unique aspects of COVID-19 confound both the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary embolism, and therefore require modification of established algorithms. Important considerations include adjustment of diagnostic modalities, incorporation of the prothrombotic contribution of COVID-19, management of two critical cardiorespiratory illnesses in the same patient, and protecting patients and health-care workers while providing optimal care.

Mixed Venous Oxygen Saturation Is a Better Prognosticator Than Cardiac Index in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

By Ghaleb Khirfan, MD; Allaa Almoushref, MD; Tawfeq Naal, MD; et al.
December 2020 Issue
In this retrospective study, researchers assessed the correlation between mixed venous oxygen saturation and thermodilution cardiac index in patients with idiopathic and heritable pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Large Granular Lymphocyte Leukemia and Precapillary Pulmonary Hypertension

By Brieuc Cherel, MD; Marc Humbert, MD, PhD; Francis R. LeBlanc, MD; et al.
December 2020 Issue
Sporadic cases of pulmonary arterial hypertension have been reported in patients with large granular lymphocyte (LGL) leukemia. This article reports on a descriptive cohort of nine patients presenting with precapillary pulmonary hypertension and LGL leukemia.
